Helsinki Arena 2000
The Helsinki Arena 2000 Project gained considerable publicity both
in Finland and abroad. As for Elisa Communications, Arena was a
long-term business project, where year 2000 was only one intermediate
stage. However, where publicity is concerned, expectations were
set explicitly to year 2000.
A cooperation consortium was set up for the Arena Project in 1996.
Focal cooperation partners from the various fields of the information
society were invited to join it. The Consortium set the following
goals to the Project: ''It is the wish of the members of the Consortium
that in 2000, Helsinki be the leading European city in the field
of culture and services, and also for the part of versatility, utilisation
rate and technology of services provided through digital media.
Another objective is to offer yet more versatile possibilities for
interaction and citizens' initiative in data networks.''
