VRML (Virtual Reality Modelling Language) is an authoring standard
for three-dimensional (3D) content on information networks. VRML
2.0/97 is the latest revision of the VRML specification.
VRML defines a number of nodes that describe 3D geometrical objects,
materials to be applied to these objects, light sources, cameras,
transformations and so on. Animations and other advanced functionality
can be added by using routes and scripting techniques. In addition,
the core set of nodes may be extended through the use of a native
prototyping mechanism.
The VRMLworks,
About.com,
the Web3D
Repository, and the Web3D
Consortium are good places to find more information on VRML.
| What do I need to view VRML-files? |
To view the VRML files, a VRML browser (plug-in) such as Cosmo
Player (
IRIX version), Cortona,
or
blaxxun Contact has to be downloaded and installed. More VRML
browsers are listed at About.com,
the Web3D
Repository, VRML
4 Linux/Unix, and MacWeb3D.
It is recommended to use Cortona
4.0 by Parallelgraphics
for viewing the content of the TRIDENT Telecommunications Application,
as it uses advanced functionality, which may cause some unstability
with certain other VRML-plug-ins.
The Browser Detector below can be used to check if the web browser
is properly configured for viewing the TRIDENT VRML files.
